The inspiration: Aperol (an Italian aperitif) and lemon juice is Bonsignore's favorite pairing. By adding a favorite seasonal fruit like strawberries and a few other ingredients, she created a refreshing warm-weather treat.
1½ ounces white rum
¾ ounce Aperol aperitif
¾ ounce lemon juice
Splash of simple syrup (You can buy it or boil equal parts water and sugar in a saucepan until sugar is dissolved.)
Muddle two strawberries for a few seconds, to the point where they're still a bit lumpy. Add the remaining ingredients and combine and stir to a consistency similar to a smoothie.
Shake with ice.
Optional: Garnish with more strawberries.
